A Culinary Masterclass

By Dariia Khudobiak

This year the Year 6 French class had an amazing opportunity to take part in a Pastry Masterclass with a French pastry chef, Ludovic Lagarde, in Larnaka. These experiences are particularly important to inspire the next generation, as this is exactly how Mr. Ludovic discovered his passion. During our visit, we had the pleasure of making one of his favourite recipes: the Lemon Tart.

“What is your signature ingredient?”

“I like to use natural ingredients. I don’t use any powders or [anything] like that. I like to work with fruit purée, to work with flowers. I make lots of cakes with flowers on top.”

“Do you think it’s more important to keep traditional recipes or is it also important to add your own touch?”

“You need to have your own touch. [This] is very important, because your own touch is your own signature.”

It is no surprise that the most popular pastry at the bakery is the French Butter Croissant — a classic! The shop is open every Friday to pick up your pre-orders. You can find more information on Instagram @pastry_masterclass

One last question to round off our interview:

“What’s one French phrase everyone should know or be familiar with?”

“Bon appétit!”

A special thanks to Miss Christina Polychroni for organising this excursion!
