Every year on the 20th of March the world celebrates the French language. Overall, there are an estimated 396 million French speakers across the 5 continents, making it the 4th most spoken language in the world!



Discover French at Med High!
As an international school, Med High has a wide range of nationalities and languages. From Grade 4 and onwards students are encouraged to add another language to their itinerary: French! But why learn it?
French can open many doors for you in your future. It’s is the language of art, fashion, theatre, dance and music. Some of the most popular songs are sang in French! These include La Vie en rose by Édith Piaf, Alors on danse by Stromae and many others. As well as much of the terminology in the creative and culture industries is borrowed from French itself! Many examples include phrases like: “chic”, “art déco”, “montage”, “avant-garde” etc.
Are you interested in politics and pursuing international relations? You may consider pursuing learning one of the languages of diplomacy. French is the official language in 26 different countries and even one of the official and working languages in the United Nations.
This year, in collaboration with Erasmus, the Year 6 French class created a magazine. This special edition captured the essence of the French language and culture. The students explored various themes and topics including but not limited to: studies in France and French philosophy.
