Med High 2024 Achievements

Written by Romy Haddad

As we look back on the academic year of 2024, Med High has witnessed remarkable achievements that reflect the hard work, dedication, and resilience of students and teachers. From academic milestones to extracurricular successes, the accomplishments of this year highlight the transformative power of education!

Euromath/Euroscience Competition 2024

One of the standout achievements of the 2024 academic year has been the impressive performance of students in the Euromath and Euroscience Competition, which took place in Rome, Italy, where nine out of eleven participants from our school came back to Cyprus with outstanding results and winning certificates in hand. The credit of this outcome not only goes to the hardworking students who attended the conference, but also to our considerate teachers who devoted time to guide them towards success: Mrs Koulla Andronicou, Ms Isavella Tsiambarta, Mr Moisis Pitsillos and Mrs Tonia Mavropsi.

Many other math competitions…

Our school also contributed to the Mathematics Relay Competition, the European Statistics Competition, and the Pancyprian Mathematics Competition. And as expected of course, our fellow peers have, yet again, brought pride to our school through their exceptional skills and dedication!

Pi Day

The celebration of this day for the first time was a memorable day for the students and the Mathematics department. With the help of the Maths teachers and some peers, the students participated in an array of games that challenged their focus and precision, like cup pong. They were also exposed to delicious food like pies (obviously), pizza and cookies. The collaborative spirit among students and teachers made the day even more special, fostering a sense of community and a newfound appreciation for mathematics.

MediMUN

Med High was also represented by the students who participated in the MediMUN conference. It was definitely a good opportunity to meet new people and gain awareness on important global issues by discussing and debating them. The whole experience was extremely fun and helped our students improve their confidence, teamwork abilities, and public speaking skills. However, the debate session that has helped us stand out the most was the AANMUN as various of our students were lucky enough to receive three prestigious awards: Best Position Paper, Honourable Mention and Best Delegate.

Erasmus+

Our school’s Erasmus+ project has been an unforgettable experience for everyone involved! From traveling to new countries to hosting students from abroad, it’s been all about making friends, learning about different cultures, and working together on exciting projects. Shoutout to the Year 1, 2 and 3 classes for their amazing projects!

Duke of Edinburgh

As usual, our school had the chance to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award, and it has been quite an adventure! Alongside the tough moments – like hiking at 8 in the morning against their will – , the students also experienced their fair share of fun, as they learned new useful skills such as working as a team. With every step they took, they all had the chance to learn something new about themselves and each other!
